Thorns
I am outside somewhere searching.
The place I am is lonely, and I'm leaning into a cornered nook of thorny bushes.
I'm at a peculiar angle.
I pull out different pieces of construction paper
that are bright purple covered in bleeding ink blotches.
Stage
I'm in a play, hair pulled back into a bun, and wearing prarie style garb.
I begin spreading pictures, paintings, and photos of people across the wooden stage.
Birthday party
I'm in Heather and Mike Gardner's house.
They are having a birthday party for their daughter, Laura.
I swing children around me in circles by their arms.
I feel a strong attraction to a fella there
and sit down in a room with creamy cushions all around the floor
and a big window, to try to fight the attraction.
I lie down and try to go to sleep.
Grandaddy
My grandfather is not how he actually is now,
but as he might have been long before my father was born - younger and stronger.
He wavers between this image and the one I rember from my childhood.
He is older, but clear minded, and much taller than I.
He is wearing a big tan coat with ivory buttons.
